Pace.
Pace.
Up.
Down.
Back.
Forth.
Until your whole carpet is covered
By footsteps.
Worry.
Wait.
Rock.
Roll.
Roll.
Over in your sleep,
Kicking the covers
Off the bed.
Waiting.
Just waiting.
The nerves eating away at you
With every passing minute,
Every second which ticks past.
They build up slowly.
Rising up.
Through your entire body.
Like a snake coiling up your spine.
Until you can't take it.
You push the snake back.
Dull it down for a while,
Keep it satisfied.
Not for long, though.
It begins to climb again.
Higher.
Up.
You begin to fidget.
You need to stand up.
You have to lie down.
You're eyes scrape over everything they fall upon
And your heart jumps around in your chest.
You can't take it.
If they won't hear you on your terms,
Tell them on any terms.
Fingers tremble.
You pour emotion
And feeling
Onto a page.
Truth.
Nothing but.
In an instant everything's gone.
Time slows back down.
Your hands become steady.
Your heart matches the clock on your wall,
Regular and even.
Somehow it's no longer your problem,
The burden of knowledge is no longer on your shoulders.
You can relax.
I can sleep peacefully.
