The Lily Pad

The water was clear as glass.
You could see every little
Pebble and stone which rested
Under the tug of the current.

And then a shadow passed over
In form of a lily pad, floating idly
Down on top of the smooth water.

It's stem had been cut,
Perhaps by some hungry creature
At the depths of the lily pond,
And now it was coasting down the
Stream not once looking back.

A dragonfly rested its tired wings
For a second, sitting on the dry platform
That was the pad, before flying off
To do what dragonflies do.

A fly landed on the edge,
To lean close to the water
And to steal a sip of moisture.
And with a splash the fly was gone
As the the trout was on his way.

Some water settled on the lily pad,
Three small beads which looked
Like they had been frozen out of
Glass.

The sun glistened off them as the
Lily pad continued on down the river
Towards whatever lay at the end.
